Affinity: smooth musculature
Herbal Actions: analgesic, antispasmodic, astringent
Indications:
Soothes menstrual cramps associated with dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts, and cramps that radiate into the back & down the thighs
Calms muscle spasms in the digestive and urinary tracts, including from interstitial cystitis, IBS and Crohn’s disease
Preferred Preparations: decoction, syrup, tincture
Taste: bitter
Contraindications: generally regarded as safe, but consult your midwife before using during pregnancy
Origin Story: used topically by Indigenous folk to ease joint pain and muscular tension
