Parts Used: all aerial parts; roots are used as an astringent

Affinity: mucous membranes, uterus

Herbal Action: astringent, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, styptic, vulnerary

Indications:

  • Tightens and tones tissues and reduces inflammation in the mucous membranes internally and externally

  • Reduces excessive menstrual bleeding, including metrorrhagia, postpartum, and perimenopausal bleeding

Preferred Preparations: infusion, tincture

Taste: slightly bitter + sour, similar to green tea with the sourness of rose

Contraindications: generally regarded as safe

Origin Story: alchemists revered the dew collected from the leaves as holy water that could purify all illnesses
