Affinity: digestive system, smooth musculature, uterus
Herbal Actions: antibacterial, antispasmodic, circulatory stimulant, digestive bitter, emmenagogue, expectorant
Indications:
Reduces stomach, intestinal and menstrual cramping
Encourages onset of menses
Traditionally used for respiratory infections with white, cloudy mucus and/or with a dry cough
Preferred Preparations: decoction, food as medicine, syrup, tincture
Taste: earthy, slightly bitter
Contraindications: do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding, and use sparingly if prone to heavy menstrual bleeding or hot conditions. May increase photosensitivity. Excessive dosage may cause nausea.
