Affinity: urinary system

Herbal Action: antibacterial, astringent, diuretic

Indications:

  • Traditionally used to treat UTIs, reduce associated inflammation, tone mucous membranes and flush the urinary tract

  • Topically soothes any irritated inflamed tissues, including poison ivy, hives, thrush, heat rash, hemorrhoids or inflamed vaginal tissues

Preferred Preparations: infusion, tincture

Taste: earthy and bitter

Contraindications: dry leaf is generally regarded as safe. Avoid high doses during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Take a break after 14 consecutive days due to high tannin content.
